It then has "Zweute Auflage. Auf Verordnung der Mennonisten Gemeinden." It is a Mennonite Hymnal published in 1811 by Michael Billmeyer in "Germantaun" The title translates as "The little spiritual harp of the children of Zion, or exquisite little songs, all the true, eager, infants of wisdom, and especially all the Christian congregations of the Lord for service and use with a relaxed connected flow and placed in present form and arrangement, with a triple register." The lower section translates as "Second edition. Of the order of the Mennonite Congregation." Has two leather hinged brass clasps. Inside front cover is SWP's first bookplate. Written in pencil on the bookplate is "67345..c" Written in pencil below the bookplate is "594" which is SWP's numbering system. Written above the bookplate in pencil is "Daniel F. Thrift his Book." The second page in ink has "Catharina Hunsperger Ihr neues gesang buch." It has two lines underneath it and then "Jesu will ich nun ergeben meinen geist in deine hand; Lass mich dir alleine leben, Bis ich, nach dem leidens-hand, den dir wohne in der frone dich beschau im vaterlande!" It has three lines drawn underneath it and then has "Beschreiben den 26then Tag December A.D. 1812." Translates to Catharina Hunsperger her new hymnal. Jesus I will now place my mind in your hand, allow me to you alone live, until I, according to suffering- stand, then to you dwell in the service of your inspection in country! Written on the 26th day of December 1812. The next page has "Saml. W. Pennypacker Phila. Feb 12, 1877" written in ink. Page behind the title page has it printed in English and normal text stating that the publisher Michael Billmeyer deposited a copy of this book in 1803 with the district of Pennsylvania regarding the Copyright Act of 1790 by the United States Congress entitled, "An Act for the Encouragement of Learning by securing the Copies of Maps, Charts and Books to the Authors and Proprietors of such Copies during the Times therein mentioned." The rest of the book is printed in old script German. Contains 473 songs, or the words to the songs. Has an index in the back. There are a few lines of music throughout the book. Some list what music to play to the hymn. This is the second edition, the first being 1803. |
