Summary |
A fiction story of an orphan boy with an introduction by H. Clay Trumball. Inside the front cover, in the bottom left corner, is the number 5598 in pencil and on a diagonal. On the first page is glued a piece of paper that has Saml. W. Pennypacker, Jan. 24, 1897 handwritten in ink. Inside the front cover is glued a folded letter [7"H x 4.5"W]. It is to Judge Pennypacker from the author and is dated Dec. 11th, 1896. It says a copy of the book has been sent to him. Inside the back cover is glued a folded letter [7"H x 4.5"W]. It is to Judge Pennypacker from the author and is dated 12/14/96. It tells of the title character James and how the trial is based on "the case of little Eddie Sowers who was tried before you in 1890." The cover is red fabric with a gold frame border. The title is at the top and the author's name is at the bottom in gold lettering. On the spine, at the top, is the title and the author's last name in gold. When the book is closed the top edge of the pages are gold colored. |
